We did things this way to avoid confusion for newcomers to liquid cooling. In reality 1/2" OD Fittings fit into 1/2" ID Tubing. There are many factors to consider when choosing tubing for your liquid cooling system. One of the most important of these factors is strength vs. flexibility. When you truly analyze PVC tubing you find that in most cases you either have strength or flexibility, but usually not both. Often you have to choose one factor over another.. or choose a thicker walled tubing to compensate for strength.. which is not a good situation. One of the greatest misconceptions in liquid cooling for computer applications is that flexibility is the most important factor. We would like to take a moment to dispel this misleading myth. Please read "De-Mystifying Tygon Tubing" below.. this is worth the read just to save you money. De-Mystifying Tygon Tubing Perhaps the greatest misconception regarding tubing in the modding world is that "Tygon" is the end-all best tubing one can buy. Nothing can be further from the truth. The first thing to know about Tygon PVC Tubing is that it is simply a brand name, no different then many other high quality PVC tubings on the market. Tygon is a high quality tubing that is specifically engineered to be chemically resistant and to work great in a laboratory setting. It has been hugely and mistakenly marketed for computer applications because of its high degree of flexibility. There is however one major problem with this approach.. when tubing is that flexible, especially at a 1/2" diameter.. it crimps extremely easily when bent!!! Take it from the owner of ArcticMOD who has bought Tygon himself in the past and was hugely disappointed. When setting up a liquid cooling system for a computer one needs a tubing that is flexible, but not so flexible that it will loose its shape when bending around tight corners. There is a fine balance between strength and flexibility in PVC tubing. When choosing tubing you want it to be strong enough so that when you bend it at a 90 degree or greater angle it will not crimp.. its wall must be strong enough to maintain its round shape. Try bending Tygon brand tubing in a 90 degree or greater angle and see what happens.. it will crimp and cut off the flow! A proper tubing for a computer liquid cooling systems will be strong and flexible at the same time.. and this was the number one factor we addressed when creating ArcticMOD Clear PVC Tubing. When we formulated ArcticMOD Clear PVC Tubing we also took into account several other important factors. The first of these is temperature tolerance. High and even moderately high Temperatures present in a liquid cooling system can wear down PVC tubing over time. We have made sure that ArcticMOD Clear PVC Tubing will outlast your setup and will never degrade from temperature. Secondly we chose a tubing with an extremely smooth extruded inner surface to help increase flow rates for a high-flow system. Another important factor is the wall thickness of our Tubing. While PVC tubing does come in a variety of wall thicknesses.. most popular are 1/16" and 1/8".. we happen to prefer a thinner wall that has a higher strength to it.. slim design is good. ArcticMOD tubing has a 1/16" wall thickness for flexibility but is strong at the same time to maintain its shape and not crimp. Lastly ArcticMOD Tubing is highly chemical resistant and even resistant to acidic conditions.
